Earl
Silas Tupper (1907-1983).
Tupperware
(plastic container with airtight lid) was invented by Earl Silas Tupper. Tupper
was a New Hampshire tree surgeon and plastics innovator, who began
experimenting with polyethylene, a new material used primarily for insulation,
radar, and radio equipment. He patented the Tupperware seal in 1947. Tupper
joined Brownie Wise
and introduced "Tupperware Parties" to market the product, a unique
way of marketing directly to homemakers.
By a
two-step process of invention, Earl S. Tupper created one of the most practical
items of Americana till date, the airtight plastic food container that still
bears his name.
Brownie
Wise ( 1913–1992
) was a pioneering American saleswoman largely responsible for the success of
Tupperware through her development of the "party plan" system of
marketing.
Responsible towards the environment
While disposable plastic bags and Styrofoam lunch boxes are
of much concern to the environment, many continue to use them indiscriminately.
This indifferent attitude is what is choking the planet even as messages across
the world are conveyed on the dangers of repeated use of such products and the
chemical degradation that follows. These products are not made to last.
Trusted for generations and designed for everyday use, Tupperware products have passed stringent tests and are built to last. They are quality products that are food-grade safe, which is integral to family health. They are also designed to be used repeatedly, thus reducing unwanted mountains of garbage.
